Glasgow Rangers boss Mark Warburton brought 12 players to Ibrox this summer.

Speaking to Rangers TV, Niko Kranjcar has described defender Philippe Senderos as a “great signing” by manager Mark Warburton.

The Swiss centre-back joined Rangers last month, becoming one of 12 players to sign for the Ibrox club during the summer transfer window.

His debut did not exactly go to plan, however.

The former Arsenal man picked up a red card in Rangers’ 5-1 defeat at Old Firm rivals Celtic a fortnight ago, when the scoreline was only 3-1.

It was not only the red card which irked Gers fans, but the manner of his second booking, dished out for a cynical handball after misjudging the bounce of a ball.

The 31-year-old has plenty of Premier League and Champions League experience, following spells with Arsenal, Everton, Valencia and AC Milan.

And Kranjcar says that the Swiss will prove himself by a fine acquisition in time.

He told Rangers TV: “It’s a great signing. He’s been training with us for a couple of weeks and we got to see first hand how good he is as a footballer.

“With the experience he brings, there’s no need to talk about it. His CV says everything. I think it’s a great, great last-minute signing.”

Senderos was eligible to return in last night’s 5-0 League Cup win over Queen of the South at Ibrox, but Warburton elected for a centre-back pairing of Clint Hill and Danny Wilson.
