The Newcastle United strikers haven’t lit up the Premier League this season.
Kevin Nolan has told Sky Sports News that Newcastle United pair Andy Carroll and Joelinton could be ‘nightmare’ for Premier League defences.
The Magpies spent a club-record £40 million on bringing the Brazilian striker to Tyneside this past summer, before Steve Bruce doubled up by re-signing Carroll for the St James’s Park club.
But it hasn’t been a good season for either Newcastle player as of yet.
Joelinton has netted just the once following his big-money move, while Carroll made his first appearance of the season with an eight-minute cameo against Brighton last weekend.
Nevertheless, Nolan, who played with Carroll, says that both strikers would wreak havoc if Bruce pairs them together.
He told Sky Sports News [24/09/2019]: “I think the more and more this lad [Carroll] gets fit and the more he is able to start games, I think you might see him and Joelinton working together as a front two because it will certainly help him and it will certainly help Joelinton out two. And believe me, they’ll be a nightmare for any defence.”
Nolan was speaking before a report from The Telegraph stated that Carroll might not play for Newcastle again in 2019.
The 30-year-old has had an injury-hit few years at West Ham United and it’d be a huge shame if those ankle problems followed him home to the North-East.
That being said, the second half of the season is going to be huge for Bruce’s side – who sit 17th in the Premier League – and if Carroll and Joelinton are available early next year, perhaps pairing them up is an experiment worth trying.
