Celtic defender Kieran Tierney could be heading out of Scotland and moving to the English Premier League with Arsenal.

Nigel Winterburn has suggested that ‘£20 million’ is a ‘fair price’ for Arsenal to pay for Celtic defender Kieran Tierney this summer amid speculation.

The Scottish Sun have claimed that Celtic have knocked back offers for Tierney from the Premier League club, with the Scottish Premiership champions valuing their player around the £25 million mark.

Arsenal are in need of defensive reinforcements this summer, as they continue to leak goals in England’s top-flight, a weakness which cost them a Champions League spot last season.

Nonetheless, former Arsenal man Winterburn has suggested that Tierney wants to leave and a £20 million deal would be more realistic, for a ‘young player’, as his comments may annoy some Bhoys supporters.

“I think somewhere closer to £20m or £22m is probably going to seal the transfer for Arsenal if they’re realistic about securing the player’s services,” Winterburn told Love Sport Radio. “Also, it makes a big difference if the player himself has indicated to the club that it’s a move he really doesn’t want to turn down: the chance to come and play in the Premier League.

“I think when you’re talking Premier League prices now, £20m doesn’t seem a lot of money so I think it’s a fair price for a young player that has undoubted ability and could progress even further.

“It seems a realistic fee to me when you’re talking about Manchester United allegedly paying £50m for Wan-Bissaka. That puts it into perspective a little bit more.”

Simply put, Celtic and Neil Lennon will want to keep hold of their top stars, but if a serious offer or a big offer came in for their players then they might have no choice but to sell.

The transfer market in England is completely different to the one in Scotland, with the former more inflated and hectic, as was proven with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to Manchester United.
