Nigel de Jong has raved about Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips on ITV (4:35pm, June 15, 2021).
The former Manchester City defensive midfielder has said that he loves watching Leeds star Phillips in action.
De Jong has added that the 25-year-old is becoming a complete midfield player.
The Dutchman said about Phillips on ITV (4:35pm, June 15, 2021): “I just love the boy. I have seen him play for Leeds this season under Bielsa, and he has got it all. He is becoming a complete midfield player.”
Huge praise
De Jong was a defensive midfielder, and he would know a quality player in his position.
The 36-year-old won league titles with Ajax and City and finished runners-up with the Netherlands at the 2010 World Cup finals.
The Dutchman saying that he loves watching Phillips shows the progress that the Leeds star has made.
The 25-year-old has been used in a conservative role in midfield by Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
But for England against Croatia at the weekend, Phillips was given the licence to venture forward.
It resulted in the 25-year-old providing the assist for Raheem Sterling.
Transformed by Bielsa into a superb defensive midfielder, Phillips actually scored seven goals and gave three assists in 36 Championship starts in 2017-18.
Phillips has shown that he can be a star for England.
For the Three Lions to win the Euro 2020 finals, the Leeds star will have to be on top of his game.
