Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has put the heat on his players to rise to the challenge against Cardiff City at Pirelli Stadium today. After a impressive first five games of the season which saw Albion pick up their first two wins at the Championship level, the next five games have been testing, with three draws and two defeats.

The Burton Mail reported that Clough saw the game as a big opportunity to end that run. “It’s a big one for us on Saturday and we will try and get a win. It would put us on target as well, at just over a point a game, towards that 50-point mark to survive the drop,” Clough said.
Albion was expected to be one of the relegation favourites this season but have been highly competitive to date, a point that Clough was keen to highlight. “We’ve played some good stuff until Tuesday Night against QPR where we struggled at times. We’ve played well at home and away, but it’s now about finding that balance between playing good football and picking up results,” the manager said.
West Brom’s Rickie Lambert
Their opponents Cardiff come into this clash in very poor form with just one win from their last seven games. The Bluebirds currently sit in 23rd position on the table and have got their fingers crossed that former Liverpool and Southampton striker Rickie Lambert is fit for the contest. Lambert only lasted 12 minutes into their midweek clash against Derby before coming off with Hamstring tightness.
The veteran striker has been a handy addition to the Cardiff squad since moving across from West Brom in the summer transfer window, scoring two goals in five league matches. Cardiff will need another solid contribution from Lambert and the rest of his teammates to get the points against a motivated Burton Albion side.
