Burton Albion are set to visit Elland Road to take on Leeds United at the weekend.
Nigel Clough has told the Burton Mail that he believes Leeds United are ‘just waiting to take off’.
Leeds have shown huge signs of progress in recent weeks, with their performances being very impressive.
The Whites have won seven of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
Leeds’ latest victory came against Norwich City in the EFL Cup, when they were backed by large numbers at Elland Road.
And Clough, whose Burton Albion side are the next visitors to Leeds’ home ground, said: “They’ve rested eight players and still beaten Norwich in the EFL Cup with 22,000 there.
“It just shows the size of the club and they’re another one just waiting to take off in this league. Garry Monk has good as good a chance as anyone of doing that.”
Burton travel to Leeds on Saturday as the heavy outsiders, given the comparative size of the two clubs.
However, the Brewers have coped well during their first season in the Championship so far and currently sit in 15th place in the table.
Leeds, meanwhile, are stationed in 10th position – and if they are able to beat Burton they could move into the play off places.
The prize of occupying a place in the top six obviously gives an added incentive for Leeds’ players ahead of the contest, but Clough insists that Burton have a plan to stop the Elland Road crowd getting involved in the match.
“They do [get fractious],” Clough added. “That’s one of the things with Derby over the years that we said – don’t give anything away early on and we did that well over the years.
“We did it on the first day of the season many years ago. Rob Hulse got us a goal and we played very well. It is a case of that – don’t give them the opportunity to get the crowd behind them because if they do that they are a force to be reckoned with.”
