Nigel Adkins responds to Leeds United rumours

Nigel Adkins has given a sharp and clear message over the rumours linking him with a move to Leeds United.

Former Southampton and Reading manager Nigel Adkins suggested in the Yorkshire Evening Post that he didn’t start the rumours linking him with Leeds United.

Adkins was respectful and praised current boss Neil Redfearn, who still doesn’t know if he’ll get a new contract from owner and chairman Massimo Cellino.

“This hasn’t come out of my mouth. They’ve got a manager in place who did a really good job last year,” he said.

As things stand, Redfearn will be out of a job at the end of next month, which gives the club plenty of time to get a new deal worked out if he is to stay on.

However, Adkins isn’t the first experienced coach to be linked with replacing Redfearn at Elland Road.

The Sun has previously reported rumours suggesting former Leeds striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is a target for Cellino.

With Redfearn’s future at the club looking bleak as the names of possible replacements pile up, all he can do is sit and hope that he gets the chance to stay on at the club.

It’s unlikely to be a popular decision if he’s not because of the good work he did last year, with many feeling that he’ll deserve a chance to get this club into a position higher than 15th in the table by this time in 2016.
