Leeds United beat Hull City 1-0 in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Hull's head coach Nigel Adkins looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Hull City and Brentford at KCOM Stadium on December 9, 2017 in Hull, England.

Hull City boss Nigel Adkins has told The Times that he thinks Leeds United will win automatic promotion back to the Premier League this season.

The Tigers played host to Leeds on Tuesday night, and were looking for a shock result to really kickstart their season as they sit at the wrong end of the Championship table.

It was a tight affair at the KCOM Stadium, but Leeds did grab all three points as Tyler Roberts jinked away from a defender before sending a long-range strike into the bottom corner of the net.

That win means Leeds return to the top of the Championship table ahead of West Bromwich Albion, even if only briefly as the Baggies take on Sheffield Wednesday this evening.

With just one league defeat this season, Leeds are looking strong, and their football under Marcelo Bielsa this season has been nothing short of breathtaking at times.

Many believe this is Leeds’ best shot of promotion back to the Premier League for some time, and Hull boss Adkins has offered his view in the aftermath of his side’s defeat.

Adkins has told The Times that he thinks Leeds are one of the best Championship sides in some years, adding that he is predicting automatic promotion to the Premier League under Bielsa this season, alongside Middlesbrough.

“Leeds are one of the best sides I’ve seen in the Championship for a very long time,” said Adkins. “We’re not on a level playing field with them and they’ll take some sides to the cleaners. It will be them and Middlesbrough who end the season in the top two,” he added.
