Arsenal midfielder Mateo Guendouzi put transfer speculation to one side on Friday and helped his country to a victory on the international stage.
Guendouzi hasn’t kicked a ball for Arsenal since June 20 after falling out with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.
The 20-year-old has since been linked with moves to Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Last night, he captained France Under-21s to a 2-0 win away to Georgia.
Guendouzi sent a post-match message on Instagram and Twitter, writing: “Well done team. Now let’s focus on the next one.”
And Arsenal team-mate sent a one-word response, simply asking: “Capitaine?” followed by a laughing face emoji.
It’s a valid – if tongue-in-cheek – question by the former Lille winger.
After all, this isn’t the first bust-up that he’s had with Arteta, which illustrates potential attitude issues.
If we’re honest, Guendouzi wouldn’t strike most people as being captain material. Yes, he has a fire in his belly, and is a very decent midfielder, but his leadership qualities are obviously majorly in doubt if he’s been exiled from Arteta’s squad twice in one year.
