Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe has been quoted by The Mirror as saying that he thinks there are ‘concentration problems’ that need to be sorted out.
The Gunners lost on Sunday afternoon, falling to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s rampant Manchester City side.
Raheem Sterling’s early header was enough to win it for City, who never really needed to break sweat despite the narrow victory.
Pepe has now shared his frustration at the nature of the opening goal, as City scored inside the first couple of minutes and were able to keep Arsenal out.
The Ivorian feels that Arsenal have ‘concentration problems’ and need to sort them out, highlighting that they conceded an early goal and then had nothing in response.
“We have concentration problems,” said Pepe. “We need to sort that out. We had chances in this match too. In this game, there was that goal and then nothing,” he added.
Losing concentration inside the first couple of minutes is a worrying trait, and this isn’t exactly the first time we’ve seen it.
Aston Villa beat Arsenal 1-0 earlier this month with a goal scored inside the first two minutes. They also conceded inside the first three minutes at Southampton last month, but at least came back to win that game 3-1.
Mikel Arteta needs to find an answer to this problem, as Arsenal can’t afford to start games so slowly and end up behind, with Pepe right in his worrying assessment.
