Darwin Nunez has posted on Instagram after scoring an incredible four goals in a 5-0 win over RB Leipzig for Liverpool on Thursday night – and Nicolas Otamendi has sent his old Benfica striker a message.
Nunez, 23, had been the subject of some criticism on social media after a couple of difficult performances in pre-season. He struggled against Manchester United, but improved in the next game, against Crystal Palace.

Coming on at half-time after Mo Salah put Liverpool 1-0 up against Leipzig, Nunez was in fine form. The Uruguay international scored four goals, including a lovely finish for the second. He got a 10 in our player ratings.
Not only will it come as a relief to Nunez, but also to the Reds. The ex-Benfica man has now shown what all the fuss is about and he can do it in a Liverpool shirt. The striker posted on Instagram following his four-goal haul.
Otamendi has sent Liverpool striker Nunez a message
What a performance it was from Nunez. It was not only his goals. The striker looked so much more confident, his link-up play with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho was excellent. An all-round performance.
A few runs off the centre-back at times too, will excite Reds fans. James McAteer said he has been improving throughout pre-season – and even compared him to both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Liverpool legend Ian Rush.
Responding to his Instagram post, Benfica defender and ex-Manchester City hard man Otamendi sent him a message. Luis Diaz and Adrian were also both full of praise for their new teammate.
