Newcastle United tried to sign striker before moving onto other targets.

Before Newcastle United signed Islam Slimani on loan on deadline day, it had appeared Nicolai Jorgensen would be their big name addition.
Newcastle did not meet this asking price and moved on, despite Feyenoord boss Giovani van Bronckhorst admitting the striker could leave if their demands were met.

Jorgensen spoke out yesterday on the near miss, and said he is not disappointed to have stayed put.
He told Dagblad Noorden: “No, I’m not disappointed. Feyenoord is my second home.
“I feel very good here, the fans support me and I can develop very well here. I give every game everything I have for this club.”
Jorgensen scored 21 goals to lead Feyenoord to the league title last season but the Dane has not quite reproduced that form this campaign, netting seven so far.
Newcastle could renew interest in the summer but this will be a gamble with Denmark at the World Cup, as if they cannot get a deal done before the tournament, his price could rocket.
