The Italian is to become the sporting director at Palermo.
Reports in Italy are suggesting that former Leeds United director of football Nicola Salerno is set to get back into football, by taking up a similar role with Palermo – as reported Meridio News.
Well known to Leeds chairman Massimo Cellino, with whom he worked extensively with Cagliari in Italy, he made the headlines for the suspension of Neil Redfearn’s assistant Steve Thompson during his time at Elland Road – and for some rather questionable player additions.

It will be his first job since leaving Watford in the summer and perhaps Leeds can try to take advantage of the link going forward.
When he left Leeds he had this to say about Cellino to Sky Sports, which suggests no hard feelings between the pair:
“Cellino told me he would prefer to have another sporting director – an English one, not Italian.
“I enjoy working with Massimo, he is the typical Italian president. I know him very well, we worked together at Cagliari for seven years.”

With that in mind he may just be a good contact in Italy for Leeds – who could certainly benefit from some sort of link with Palermo.
Leeds fans will of course be wary, considering some of their Italian recruits before whilst Salerno was on board.
But it will be interesting to see if anyone heads to England in the months to come from Salerno’s new stomping ground.
