Real Madrid defender Jesus Vallejo is reportedly heading to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers after a superb loan spell in the Bundesliga.

At the age of just 22, Jesus Vallejo has won the Champions League, the European Super Cup and a pair of Club World Cups. This summer, he captained Spain to glory at the U21 European Championships.

And, according to Marca, he could now be on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan.

Wolves are apparently ‘one step away’ from signing the Real Madrid defender in what could be one of the most inspired deals of the transfer window. Vallejo is a natural born leader and a combative, all-action defender not too dissimilar to a young Carles Puyol – if only he could put those injury problems behind him.

And while Zinedine Zidane never really appeared to rate a man who inherited Pepe’s number three shirt at the Santiago Bernabau, leave it to Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac to explain just how talented this Zaragoza-born stopper is.

“I’ve never seen a player like [Vallejo], as a player or as a coach. This kid is scandalously good,” Kovac told AS in 2016, when he was coaching Vallejo during a loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Team-mate and Frankfurt goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky agreed: “Right now he is our best player. Vallejo makes my job much easier.”

High praise indeed from a man now in charge of the Bavarian giants and a goalkeeper who has been one of the Bundesliga’s best in recent years.

That tried-and-tested back three of Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady and Willy Boly started almost every one of Wolves’ Premier League games last season. But, with Vallejo on his way to Molineux, no one can afford to get comfortable.
