Newcastle United are ending the season in poor form, as Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur means that they have now lost four games in a row.

After winning four games on the bounce, Newcastle have now lost to Everton, West Brom, Watford and Tottenham all by a single goal, highlighting the need for improvements this summer.

Manager Rafael Benitez will be keen to bring in a new striker given that loanee Islam Slimani is returning to Leicester City and Dwight Gayle could yet leave this summer, whilst Joselu hasn’t impressed.

A host of striker are bound to be linked with moves to St. James’ Park as a result, and major German newspaper Bild now claim that Newcastle want to bring in Hannover striker Niclas Fullkrug.

It’s believed that Fullkrug, 25, could cost around €10million (£8.8million), and the likes of Aston Villa, Cardiff City, Fulham, Leicester City and Watford are all thought to be keen.

Newcastle fans may be hoping for a big name addition in attack, and Fullkrug doesn’t exactly fit that bill, but his record in Germany is impressive this season, with 15 goals in 35 games catapulting him into the limelight.

The former Werder Bremen youngster is a talented target man with strength and aerial ability, but he also has a turn of pace and has room to develop, which can’t be said for Slimani.

Pinning their hopes on Fullkrug adapting to the Premier League may be risky, but Newcastle should certainly be considering a move to lure the German hitman to England this summer whilst also looking for another, more proven goalscorer.
