The Burnley goalkeeper has caught the eye this season.
Burnley have received widespread praise for their recent form, with Sean Dyche’s side currently in sixth place in the Premier League having won four of their last six top flight fixtures.
Dyche has managed to get Burnley performing effectively as a unit, with their defensive resilience playing a large part in their impressive run.
However, goalkeeper Nick Pope also deserves much praise for the performances that he has produced this season.
Standing in for the injured Tom Heaton, Pope, who had never previously played in the Premier League, has been excellent, keeping eight clean sheets in 14 top flight fixtures.
Possessing excellent reflexes, the 25-year-old has demonstrated that he is capable of performing in the Premier League and dropping him when Heaton does eventually return certainly won’t be easy. In fact, it is possible that Pope could retain his place in the side should he continue to perform so effectively.
In addition, Pope’s exploits could also catch the attention of England manager Gareth Southgate, with the Burnley shot-stopper perhaps having an outside chance of making the World Cup squad should Joe Hart, Jack Butland or Jordan Pickford get injured.
With Burnley frequently adopting a defensive approach, Pope has had much work to do this season and has frequently had to make important stops at crucial moments in games.
Burnley have some very difficult games on the horizon – they face Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Liverpool within the next month – and Pope will have to be at his best again to help his side.
So far, though, the goalkeeper has performed excellently.
