Nick Kyrgios’ return to tennis in 2026 is yet to set the world alight after appearances at the Brisbane International and the Kooyong Classic.

The controversial Australian also played the Australian Open’s One-Point Slam, but he was beaten by Joanna Garland.

Kyrgios claims he turned down the opportunity to play the Australian Open as a wild card in the singles draw, but he will be appearing in the doubles.

The star will also play another brand-new tournament with rules that will be unconventional to tennis fans.

Nick Kyrgios set to play the Mixed Doubles Showdown

Kyrgios has signed up to play a Mixed Doubles event, dubbed ‘Showdown’, alongside fellow Aussie Ellen Perez.

Perez, who has a career high doubles ranking of world number seven, confirmed the news with a post on X.

The matches will take place at the Kia Arena and will feature an unconventional 10-minute match structure.

The team that acquire the most points in each group will go through to the final.

Perez and Kyrgios will play in the same group as Taylor Townsend and Neal Skupski, as well as Julian Cash and Hsieh Su-wei.

The other group will contain Olivia Gadecki and John Peers, Erin Routliffe and Lloyd Glasspool, and Luisa Stefani and Marcelo Arevalo.

Will Nick Kyrgios continue to play tennis after the Australian Open?

Kyrgios has not played tennis as consistently as he has on the Australian swing for well over a year, but he only has one tournament announced following the Grand Slam.

The star has still not confirmed another ATP Tour tournament, but he will play the MGM Slam in Las Vegas on 1 March.

The event is an eight-player knockout consisting of 10-point tiebreakers, with a $1 million prize pool on the line for the winner.

Kyrgios will join the likes of Taylor Fritz, Alexander Bublik, and Lorenzo Musetti at the exhibition tournament.
