The Denver Broncos have been dealt a major blow ahead of the AFC Championship Game after star quarterback Bo Nix suffered a season-ending ankle injury in their overtime win over the Buffalo Bills.

The loss of Nix, who led the team to its first conference title game since 2015, leaves Denver relying on backup Jarrett Stidham against the New England Patriots.

The injury occurred late in Denver’s thrilling 33-30 Divisional Round victory, where Nix played a key role in the game-winning drive before his right ankle was fractured.

The Broncos confirmed he will require surgery and will miss the remainder of the postseason, forcing a sudden shift in offensive leadership at the most critical stage of the season.

Nick Foles offers Denver Broncos fans a reason to smile

Former NFL quarterback Nick Foles took to social media to share an encouraging message for Denver supporters, saying: “Note for the Broncos and their fans: I know it has been an emotional 24 hours. I feel for Bo and the team, and I’m sending prayers for a strong recovery.

“A positive note going into the game versus the Patriots is that they struggle against backup QBs in championship-type games.”

Foles’ comments provided a rare positive spin amid the disappointment, referencing his own experience as a backup-turned-Super Bowl starter with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Many Broncos fans have seized on his words as a source of hope that Denver can overcome adversity with Jarrett Stidham at quarterback in the AFC title game.

Bo Nix had been instrumental to the Denver Broncos’ success

Bo Nix established himself as a franchise quarterback in his second NFL season, setting Broncos rookie records for passing touchdowns and leading Denver to a 15-3 record before the playoffs.

His performance this season was a key factor in the team securing the No. 1 seed and a home AFC Championship Game. The fractured ankle he suffered late in the Bills game will sideline him for surgery and rehabilitation, leaving a notable leadership and playmaking gap for the Broncos to fill under pressure.

Denver head coach Sean Payton expressed confidence in his backup’s ability to step up, but the sudden transition from a rising star in Nix to a relatively untested Stidham has reshaped expectations for the Broncos as they prepare for one of the biggest games of the season.

With the Patriots looming as opponents, Foles’ supportive message has resonated among fans searching for reasons to remain optimistic ahead of the championship battle.
