Nick Faldo has more experience than most of playing in hostile atmospheres on foreign soil at the Ryder Cup.

Only Phil Mickelson has made more Ryder Cup teams than Faldo, with the Englishman having represented Team Europe and GB&I 11 times throughout his career.

However, despite all of that experience, the Englishman never once experienced abuse from fans like the European players did at Bethpage Black in September last year.

Faldo is the second-highest point scorer in the history of the Ryder Cup, behind only Sergio Garcia.

Nick Faldo is unquestionably one of the greatest Ryder Cup players of all-time.

However, the last installment of the Ryder Cup left the six-time major champion with a sour taste in his mouth.

Nick Faldo was not impressed by fan behavior at the Ryder Cup

Faldo spoke to Today’s Golfer about what he witnessed at Bethpage Black in September of last year.

And the Englishman made it very clear that he wasn’t impressed at all with what he saw.

“Oh, well, the Ryder Cup was flat out disgusting, wasn’t it? Absolutely disgusting, Faldo said.

And I blame the PGA of America, because they knew it was coming. We sat in meetings and they were always like, ‘We will deal with it.’ They didn’t deal with it. They wanted it to put the Europe off.

“Those players were worn out having to deal with that. But, hey, that’s what losers do, isn’t it? If you’re a loser, you scream at somebody who’s successful because you’re never going to be successful.

“I don’t know what they do, though. Do they go back to the pub and tell their mates, ‘I hurled abuse at somebody all day long.’ But it didn’t affect them. They still won. So that didn’t really work, did it?

The Englishman shared his genius idea to stop poor fan behavior in its tracks.

“When you buy a ticket, more than likely you have to give an email address, so they know who they are, Faldo said.

“I think it should be in black and white, bold, block capital letters that if you are ejected you will be fined ‘X’ amount – five thousand dollars or something. Make it a serious number where they go, ‘Hang on, I don’t want to get thrown out and it cost me five grand.’

I don’t know if they can do that legally, but put the stiffest penalty available to you. At Augusta, they know they will not get a ticket again. Simple as that.

“That’s not our game. That is just flat out not our game. The disgusting stuff they shout at the players pre-shot, or any time, has got to be eliminated.”
