Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports’ website that he expects West Ham United to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup by knocking out Shrewsbury Town – but only just.

The Hammers travel to New Meadow on Sunday afternoon to face League One outfit Shrewsbury in third round of the competition, as Premier League and Championship clubs enter the competition at this stage.

Manager David Moyes is likely to make a whole host of changes after his West Ham side faced West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night before going up against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

Former Arsenal and Celtic ace Nicholas, who has a well-known pundit with Sky Sports, claimed that West Ham will earn a 2-1 win against Shrewsbury but has identified a concern for West Ham fans.

“This is difficult for West Ham because this is the last thing they need after their back-to-back games and the lack of numbers David Moyes is down to,” Nicholas said.

“It could be a troubling day for them and you worry whether they’ll able to match their hosts’ energy after tough games on Tuesday and Thursday.”

West Ham will be without a whole host of first-team stars such as Sam Byram, Aaron Cresswell, Jose Fonte, Reece Oxford and Edimilson Fernandes, but Moyes could welcome back goalkeeper Joe Hart.

The Manchester City loanee began his career with Shrewsbury Town, making his debut a day after his 17th birthday before joining Manchester City in 2006.

The Hammers will be more than confident of earning a fourth victory under Moyes, following wins against Chelsea, Stoke and West Brom, with 31 places separating the two sides. However, Shrewsbury have been in top form and sit second in England’s third tier.
