Former Arsenal and Celtic forward Charlie Nicholas has predicted on Skysports.com that Toby Alderweireld will score for Tottenham Hotspur against Apoel Nicosia this evening.

Tottenham will take on Apoel away from home at the Pancyprian Gymnastic Association Stadium in Champions League Group H in a few hours’ time.

Spurs will head into the match on the back of a 3-2 victory over West Ham United away from home at the London Stadium in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are favourites for this evening’s match, and it will come as a huge surprise if they drop all three points.

Former Arsenal forward Nicholas has backed Tottenham to win the game 2-1, and has predicted Toby Alderweireld to score first.

Alderweireld is one of the best central defenders in the world and is set to start against Apoel.

The 28-year-old centre-back, though, does not have a great record of scoring goals, and perhaps Spurs fans will be surprised that Nicholas has predicted the Belgium international to find the net this evening.

The former Atletico Madrid star scored just once in the Premier League and only one goal in the Champions League last season.

Alderweireld has been on the books of Tottenham since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £11.4 million.

“What they’ll get here is a physical scrap,” Nicholas wrote on Skysports.com. “APOEL will be awkward to break down and well organised, so I think it could be a tight night for Spurs.”
