Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after seeing what Villarreal did following their 5-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final.

What’s the story?

Well, this was a lovely touch from the Spanish side.

After full-time, it would’ve been easy for Villarreal to be grumpy, frustrated and unsporting after missing out on a place in the Champions League final.

However, Unai Emery’s side posted a tweet congratulating Liverpool on their victory, while also wishing them all the best for the future.

The Yellow Submarine even called the Reds a ‘fantastic team’ – you don’t see that very often from the losing side, to say the least.

You can see what Lineker thought of Villarreal’s classy gesture below.

You have to admire Villarreal after their stunning Champions League campaign.

They are by no means a European giant, but despite that, they still managed to knock out Juventus and Bayern Munich on their way to the semi-final.

It was a fantastic run, and they should be immensely proud of themselves.

Liverpool must learn from Villarreal win

Yes, Jürgen Klopp managed to secure victory in Spain, but the German should be far from happy with how his side performed.

Liverpool looked shaky in the first-half, and there were some baffling defensive decisions from Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Scotland international was statuesque for Boulaye Dia’s goal, allowing Etienne Capoue to nip in ahead of him to set up the Senegal international.

Then, for Francis Coquelin’s headed equaliser, Alexander-Arnold simply stood and watched as the ex-Arsenal man – who isn’t exactly a giant – leapt above him.

Fortunately for Liverpool, Gerónimo Rulli decided to turn into a hologram in the second half, allowing Fabinho and Luis Diaz’s strikes to go through him, before the Argentine bizarrely went walkabouts for Sadio Mane’s goal.

If Klopp is to pull off this historic quadruple, his side simply cannot perform like they did in that first-half again.
