Jean Michel Seri could finally move to Merseyside with Ligue 1 outfit Nice listening to offers – but will Everton or Liverpool win the race?
Steven N’Zonzi looked all set for a return to the Premier League after falling out of favour at Sevilla. But according to The Sun (page 60, 22nd December) Everton may be put off by the demands of the French midfielder and his agent – while Sevilla’s reported £35 million price-tag has also cast a deal into doubt.
But while N’Zonzi could be a little overpriced, the same cannot be said about Jean-Michel Seri. According to Buzz Sport, Ligue 1 outfit Nice may be willing to listen to offers of around £18 million in January – dropping the Ivorian’s price tag considerably.
Seri, who came close to signing for Barcelona in the summer for £35.2 million, has been linked with a move to England for some time and expect speculation to intensify again in the coming days.
The Mail stated at the beginning of December that long-standing suitors Liverpool are still keen despite Seri’s form dipping somewhat since the obvious disappointment of failing to secure a move to the Camp Nou.
At his best, however, Seri is an elite midfielder blessed with both creativity and superb distribution, not to mention a real box-to-box tenacity. Legendary Spanish midfielder Xavi even claimed that he had Barca DNA, per Goal.
But if Nice, who are short of cash right now, are willing to sell Seri on a cut-price deal, Everton should drop N’Zonzi like a stone and join the chase again.
RMC Sport claimed that Everton were interested back in the summer and while they aren’t short of technical midfielders, they simply cannot miss out on a player of Seri’s quality.
He is quicker, younger and more creative than N’Zonzi – not to mention cheaper.
