Dean Ashton told the Football Show on Sky Sports that Tottenham forward Gareth Bale aimed a ‘nice little dig’ at Jose Mourinho at the weekend.

After Spurs dispatched relegated Sheffield United 4-0, with Bale netting a hat-trick, he spoke to Sky Sports about their attacking style and playing the ‘Tottenham way’.

It’s not the first time that the Real Madrid man has mentioned Spurs being more on the front foot since Mourinho’s sacking, as he is clearly aiming jibes at his former manager.

Well, former Premier League striker, Ashton, certainly thinks it’s that way, as he stated whether he can see Spurs securing a Champions League finish.

“Nice little dig at Jose from Gareth Bale, who was absolutely magnificent against Sheffield United,” said Ashton. “The way he took his goals.

“I thought Dele, as well was brilliant. He has hardly played but he was given an opportunity.

“But with that front four, they can beat any side when they are at it. All of them and you cannot discount them (for the Champions League) because they have the players to put a run together.

“I personally don’t think Tottenham will be able to do it. But they are a scary outfit, for any team to play, at the moment.”

Well, it will be interesting to see if Ryan Mason now sticks with Bale, Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Dele Alli as his attacking players going forward.

Spurs simply cannot take any more backwards steps because those top four places are slipping away from them and it’s out of their hands.

At this moment in time, in the Premier League, it’s going pretty well for English football’s youngest coach since 1992, but one defeat can change the mood around the place pretty quickly.
