Tottenham Hotspur last night clinched a deal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
It had at one stage appeared he was destined to sign for Everton, with SkySports reporting he was travelling to the Toffees for a medical, before Spurs stole in to complete his signature.

One one hand it seemed bemusing that Spurs waited until there was an hour to go before matching Everton’s £30 million offer for the Frenchman – but it may just have been part of Tottenham’s plan all along.
Speaking to SkySports News HQ at 10pm, former Premier League striker turned pundit Niall Quinn said that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will have wanted it to pan out like it did, and used Everton to take advantage of.
He said: “It’s classic Daniel Levy. Let Everton do the running, push the price to the high ceiling, then steal in, and offer Champions League football, offer his agent a higher fee. Everton were used as a patsy.”

The chance to play Champions League football may well have been a deciding factor for Sissoko, and without it, who knows if Spurs will have got the edge.
