Victor Wanyama has been a fine signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Niall Quinn has described the signing of Victor Wanyama as an “efficient” bit of business by Tottenham Hotspur.

The 25-year-old joined Tottenham from Southampton in a £12 million deal this past summer.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino signed five players during the off-season, but none of the other four look like eclipsing the Kenyan midfielder as the most effective.

Indeed, Wanyama has arguably been the Lilywhites’ best player this season, and looked fantastic again on Sunday when Pochettino’s side drew 1-1 at Arsenal.

And Quinn says that signing such a good player for such little money was a “typical bit of efficiency” by the club.

“Mid-term report for the recruits of summer 2016? Some successes, some shrewd buys, a long list of flops, misfits and “ones for the future,” he told Sky Sports.

“Victor Wanyama has been a typical bit of efficient Spurs business, and Joe Allen was a neat bit of business for Stoke – he deserves a snappier nickname than ‘the Midlands Andrea Pirlo’.”

But so far it seems like Wanyama’s contribution is going to waste a little.

With a player like that dominating Tottenham’s midfield, Pochettino’s boys should be far closer to the top of the table than they are, but five points separate them from Premier League leaders Liverpool.

They are also without a win in their last eight games in all competitions.

If the Argentine’s attacking signings – namely Vincent Janssen and Moussa Dembele, who cost a combined £47 million – were as good going forward as Wanyama is defensively, then perhaps the North Londoners would be in much better shape this season.
