Some Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to give their reaction to Niall Huggins leaving the club to join Sunderland.

What’s the story?

Leeds have announced on their official website that Huggins has moved to League One club Sunderland on a permanent contract.

The 20-year-old full-back was at Leeds since 2009 and came through the academy.

The youngster signed his first professional contract with Leeds in May 2019 and made his league debut for the first team against Arsenal in February 2021.

Huggins came on as a substitute in the 53rd minute at the Emirates Stadium, as Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost the Premier League match 4-2.

Sunderland have announced on their official website that Huggins has signed a four-year contract with the club.

The Wales Under-21 international can play as a left-back or as a right-back, and he is also able to play in central midfield.

What are Leeds United fans saying?

As you can see from the tweets below, Leeds fans are surprised at the club’s decision to sell Huggins.

Well, some of them anyway.

Meanwhile, Leeds head coach Bielsa has praised the development and progress of 19-year-old winger Crysencio Summerville.

Leeds Live quotes Bielsa as saying: “I share in the analysis you made, he’s one of the youngsters who has evolved the most. It’s what generates optimism but the most difficult thing is yet to be done.”

It will be interesting to see if Summerville gets the chance to establish himself in the Leeds first team this season.
