Ola Toivonen could still complete a move to Norwich City this summer, with the PSV striker currently mulling over his options.
Norwich City have already made two excellent signings to bolster their attacking options this summer, with Gary Hooper and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel both arriving at Carrow Road, but they might still also be in the market for Ola Toivonen.
The Sweden international seemed to reject the chance to move to Norwich early in the summer, but Toivonen has now come out to say that he is still considering his options, and the Canaries are still in the running.
“I did not say definitively it (Norwich) was no longer an option,” Toivonen told Dutch magazine VI.
“I want to take my time, I do not hurry.”
Although Norwich have signed two strikers this summer, Toivonen would still be a smart addition, and would bring a bit more creativity to their front line than Hooper or Van Wolfswinkel.
Having agreed a fee of around £4.5 million with PSV, the Swede would not break the bank, and could play with either of their other new forwards in a support role.
Chris Hughton is still in the market for a forward of Toivonen’s type, having reportedly renewed his interest in Juventus’ Fabio Quagliarella this week. The 27-year-old is younger than Quagliarella, and would also cost less, with Juventus apparently asking for around £9million for the Italian striker.
Adding Toivonen to Hooper and Van Wolfswinkel would complete an overhaul of Norwich’s attacking options that would give Hughton several possible combinations for his frontline, and leave the Canaries well set for a successful campaign in the Premier League.
Toivonen’s approach to the move does suggest that he is waiting to see if any other teams come in with a bid for his services, and this might rile Norwich fans, but if he ends up a success at Carrow Road after completing a late move then the manner of his arrival will be quickly forgotten.
