After an unimpressive first 12 months at Aston Villa, Bjarnason became an important player in the second half of last season for the club.

Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason has reportedly sought assurances from Steve Bruce about his playtime this season, amongst apparent interest from outside the Championship.
According to Birmingham Live, Serie B side Empoli are interested in signing the 30-year-old who has previous experience in Italy.
The report states that the Icelandic international is happy where he is, but has sought assurances about his playtime at Villa. The Championship club are said to be keen to resist any approach.
Bjarnason will not have done his chances any harm with his performance in the Villan’s 3-2 victory over Wigan Athletic on Saturday, as he popped up to score the winner in the 94th minute.
‘The Iceman’ arrived at Villa Park from Basel in January 2017, but struggled to make a significant impression during his first 12 months at the club.

After a frustrating beginning to his career in England, Bjarnason forced himself into Steve Bruce’s side in their drive for promotion in the second have of the 2017/18 season.
Despite falling out of favour toward the end of the last season, the midfielder appears to have proven his worth to Bruce and Villa fans’, judging from their responses on Twitter:
