West Ham United are reportedly interested in the Manchester United defender.

According to a report from the Metro, West Ham United are preparing an offer for Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling.
The defender has been a great servant to the club, having made 289 appearances since joining for around £7 million from Fulham in 2010.
His 2017/18 season may be remembered for his winner against Manchester City but, despite making 46 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side last season, the centre-back struggled to find form and made some glaring defensive errors in big games.

Smalling has failed to live up to the potential that Sir Alex Ferguson saw in him when he brought him to the club as a 20-year-old, and while he has been a mainstay in the Manchester United back four in recent years, the Red Devils should look to cash in on West Ham’s reported interest.
Smalling does not represent the quality of player that Manchester United will need at the heart of their defence if they’re to compete with the best clubs and return to their dominant best.

Manchester United are also rumoured to be in the market for a new centre-back, with the Sun reporting that Mourinho is keen on Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld.
The North West club currently has seven options at centre-back in their squad, so it makes sense to sell Smalling to make room for the Belgian – or whoever else they land.
