Alexis Sanchez, the standout player on the night, put Jose Mourinho’s side one up in the 12th minute, coolly slotting the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma after a smart flick by Juan Mata.

Milan equalised a few minutes later, when some questionable defending and a lifted through ball left Suso through on goal.

United started the game with Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Axel Tuanzebe at centre-back and, despite the costly mistake for the goal, Red Devils’ fans took a lot of positives from the latter’s performance.
