The 31-year-old has been instrumental of late, helping Queens Park Rangers to six clean sheets in ten.

Queens Park Rangers’ start to this season is one that will go down in history for all the wrong reasons. Four consecutive defeats in which the R’s shipped an alarming 13 goals, with seven of those coming in a humiliating loss against West Bromwich Albion.

Fast-forward two months and the outlook is looking much brighter for QPR and manager Steve McClaren, and much of that must be owed to centre-back Joel Lynch, who has been a rock at the heart of their defence.

Rangers have conceded on just six occasions in their last ten outings and have won the same number of games in that period, with Lynch rightfully receiving plaudits from the R’s faithful.

Strong in the tackle and in the air, the former Huddersfield Town man has helped Rangers climb to 13th in the table and Lynch has even earned himself a place in WhoScored’s ‘seasonal’ Championship team of the season. He sits alongside Leeds United’s Liam Cooper with a rating of 7.4.

Not bad for somebody who has previously struggled with injuries since signing for QPR in 2016, which certainly went a long way to disrupting Lynch’s presence in the starting XI. He has now formed a strong partnership with summer-signing Toni Leistner and the pair are proving indispensable for the west Londoner’s.

R’s fans will be hoping that Lynch can keep himself fit for the remainder of the season and, with another game under the Loftus Road lights on Friday against Aston Villa, Lynch will be hoping to maintain his fine form against Dean Smith’s side and throughout the rest of the campaign.
