Neymar Jr and on-loan Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo have reacted to the news that Sergio Busquets is going to be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old, who is a one-club man and has spent 18 years in Barcelona colours, has been one of the greatest midfielders of his generation.

Both Neymar, who is now at PSG, and Arthur Melo, currently on a forgettable and injury-ravaged loan deal at Liverpool, played alongside the quick-thinking number six during their days at the Nou Camp.

They would have seen first-hand Sergio Busquets produce masterclass after masterclass on how to protect the back four, start attacks, control the game, get the best out of those around him, nullify the opposition’s threat and understand when to quicken up the game.

That team under Pep Guardiola, which was dominated by the incomparable Lionel Messi, will go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, club sides to have ever graced a pitch and Busquets was at the heart of it.

Nonetheless, following the Spain star’s decision to leave Barcelona, two of the following players sent best wishes to the player via their social accounts.

“We have shared many good moments which I treasure dearly,” said Arthur Melo on his Instagram story. “Playing with you has been an immense pleasure and I wish you the best of luck in your new stage. All the best for the future.”

Neymar Jr wrote on his Instagram story: “Congratulations for everything. It was my pleasure to share beautiful moments with you. You are very great. I wish you the best in your new stage.”

BUSQUETS ONE OF THE GREATS

Not many players, since the turn of the century, can claim to be better than Busquets, who has won the lot in his career.

From World Cup glory to a three-time Champions League winner, he was at the heart of it all, whether it be for the iconic Vicente del Bosque or the Johan Cruyff-trained, Pep Guardiola.

He produced for them all, and as the years go by, his legacy will only continue to grow as being one of the greatest midfielders to have played the game.
