Wolverhampton Wanderers sacked head coach Walter Zenga on Tuesday.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ search for a new manager has taken another twist, 24 hours after former Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman emerged as a shock favourite with bookmakers Skybet.
The Scot, who left his City Ground post in March, was 8/11 to succeed Walter Zenga on Wednesday, but has since slipped to fourth with odds of 6/1.
At 3/1, ex-England manager Sam Allardyce had been the previous second favourite, but is now one of three candidates above Freedman – despite dropping to 4s.
Another former international boss, Marc Wilmots, is the first of two significant climbers at 7/2, which will perhaps come as little surprise given that he is a client of Wolves adviser Jorge Mendes.

The Belgian’s relationship with Mendes, however, could still count for nothing, after Nigel Pearson shot from 8/1 to 6/4 within minutes of the Telegraph publishing a report which claimed the former Derby County manager has held initial talks over the Molineux vacancy.

Among the other well-placed candidates are Portuguese duo Vitor Pereira (8/1) and Marco Silva (14/1), who are separated by Wolves caretaker Rob Edwards at 12s.
Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy, who managed Wolves for six years until 2012, is another at 14/1.
