Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked manager Walter Zenga, and are searching for a replacement.

Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed last week that manager Walter Zenga has lost his job after less than three months in charge of the club.

Zenga, 56, took charge of just 14 league games, winning only four after replacing Kenny Jackett, before being shown the door after a 1-0 home defeat to Leeds United.

Whilst much of his playing career was tied to Inter Milan during a lengthy spell with the Italian giants, his managerial career has been much more nomadic. Wolves were Zenga’s 16th managerial job in 18 years, and Fosun International have decided that it’s time for change already, handing Rob Edwards the reins for Saturday’s 1-1 draw away Blackburn.

Bookmakers have been busy pricing up odds for who could become the new Wolves manager over the last few days – and here are five of the most notable moves today, as compiled by Oddschecker.

Nottingham Forest manager Dougie FreedmanFormer Nottingham Forest manager Dougie Freedman

Nigel Pearson: Pearson has been the favourite for days now, but he’s drifted out to 6/1 this evening having been odds-on for the job just 24 hours ago. Pearson’s reputation is in tatters after a torrid and short-lived spell at Derby County, and he needs to rebuild his career just over two years after he guided Leicester to promotion from the Championship. A veteran manager with Championship experience, Pearson appears to fit the bill for Wolves, but his odds are drifting heavily this evening.

Dougie Freedman: A former Wolves striker who has been touted for a return to Molineux, Scottish boss Freedman has been out of work since March having lost his job at Nottingham Forest. Once highly rated at Crystal Palace, Freedman has since struggled at Bolton Wanderers and Forest, and whilst he is believed to be in the running for the Wolves job, he has drifted out to as far as 20/1 this evening, making him an outside now.

Inter Milan coach Frank de BoerEx-Inter Milan coach Frank de Boer

Frank de Boer: Sacked by Inter Milan earlier today, De Boer won just five of his 14 games in charge of the Italian giants, which has severely dented his reputation. The former Barcelona and Rangers ace won four straight Eredivisie titles in charge of Ajax between 2011 and 2014, which had made the 46-year-old one of the top young managers in Europe. Now out of work, De Boer is a shock 20/1 outside shot for the Wolves job tonight.

Erwin Sanchez: A shock name to be mentioned tonight is Bolivian boss Sanchez. The 47-year-old saw his second spell as Boavista boss come to an end earlier this season, and has previously managed Blooming and Oriente Petrolero in his native Bolivia, as well as the Bolivian national team. Sanchez would be another left-field appointment for Wolves after Zenga, yet he’s in at 25/1 tonight.

Former Aston Villa manager Paul LambertFormer Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert

Paul Lambert: Now the hot favourite for the job, many believe Lambert is all set to take the reins at Molineux. The Scot has been out of work since leaving Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season, and could return to management with Wolves. Now as short as 1/8 this evening having previously been behind Pearson in the odds, the former Aston Villa boss will be hoping to rebuild his reputation having struggled at Villa, but guided former club Norwich City to promotion from the Championship in 2011.
