According to The Athletic’s Dominic Fifield, Crystal Palace have narrowed down their search for a new manager to three options.
Speaking on The Totally Football Show, Fifield said: “I would say one of Nuno (Espirito Santo), Sean Dyche or Valérien Ismaël, any point next week.”
Interestingly, Fifield specialises in London football for The Athletic, and has previously covered Crystal Palace for The Guardian.
Amongst the Selhurst Park faithful, he is a reliable figure, so his comments should certainly be listened to.
Intriguingly, his revelation comes from Sunday’s edition of the podcast, so we should expect an appointment sometime this week.
Nuno and Dyche are vastly different to Ismaël
If the south Londoners were to appoint Nuno or Dyche, fans would know what to expect.
The pair have spent years in the Premier League managing Burnley and Wolves, so supporters are familiar with their playing styles.
In Ismaël’s case, the Frenchman is largely an unknown quantity.
Crystal Palace fans should know who he is, as he used to play for the club.
However, his managerial career has only taken him to England once, with Barnsley.
He is an extremely fascinating candidate, as he somehow turned the Tykes from relegation favourites into a Play-Off side.
At one point this season, Barnsley went on a 12-game unbeaten run, winning nine of those games.
In our view, this is a fine shortlist – any of these managers would be an interesting appointment, who would get the fans back invested.
