Tottenham Hotspur are now considering a move for Mainz boss Bo Svensson as they weigh up their managerial options.

That is according to a report from ESPN, who claim that Svensson is ‘being considered’ by Spurs.

The Dane hasn’t really been mentioned up to his point but Tottenham appear to be eyeing him up.

Tottenham parted ways with Antonio Conte in March and their managerial situation has become a mess.

Cristian Stellini is out as interim boss with Ryan Mason now taking charge until the summer.

A host of managers have been linked, including the likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique.

Spurs could look at in-work managers too though with Svensson now a real option for Tottenham.

Who is Tottenham target Bo Svensson?

Svensson enjoyed a decent playing career, racking up appearances for Copenhagen in his native Denmark.

A 2006 move to Borussia Monchengladbach didn’t really work out and Svensson joined Mainz in 2007.

Svensson saw out his playing days with Mainz and decided to hang up his boots in 2014, aged 34.

Svensson has since turned to coaching and was an assistant coach at Mainz, even taking charge of their Under-19 squad.

A move to Austria materialised in 2019 as Svensson took charge of FC Liefering – the feeder club of Red Bull Salzburg.

Svensson coached the likes of Karim Adeyemi and Benjamins Sesko during his time with Liefering.

Svensson completed an emotional return to Mainz, becoming their new boss in January 2021.

Svensson finished 12 in that short period before taking eighth spot this season. Mainz sit eighth this season too.

The 43-year-old has earned huge praise for his playing style and often plays with a back three – something that could work for this Spurs squad.

Svensson worked under Jurgen Klopp at Mainz and the Liverpool boss has since described his managerial work as ‘outstanding’.

This is a fascinating option for Tottenham and a surprise candidate in the race for the Spurs job.
