Arne Slot wants to become the new Tottenham Hotspur manager but there is still a gap of €5million to bridge.

Feyenoord are fighting a losing battle in their attempts to keep Arne Slot as he wants to join Tottenham Hotspur.

That is according to a report from RTV Rijnmond over in the Netherlands.

It’s stated that Feyenoord met with Slot’s agent Rafaela Pimenta today in an attempt to discuss a new deal.

However, Pimenta allegedly communicated Slot’s desire to leave Feyenoord and become the new Tottenham boss.

Feyenoord are offering a ‘much-improved’ deal to Slot but the Dutchman seemingly wants a move to North London instead.

It’s unclear just how much Feyenoord want for Slot; a £6million release clause is only thought to be available in 2024.

Feyenoord are demanding a ‘hefty lump sum’ for Slot and it’s claimed that Tottenham are around €5million (£4.5million) away from their valuation.

Feyenoord are expecting to hold more talks with Slot about his future but it looks increasingly likely that he will be heading to Tottenham.

Arne Slot could join Tottenham without his assistant manager

It has now become pretty clear that Slot is Tottenham’s number one managerial target.

Slot has guided Feyenoord to an unexpected Eredivisie title and even advanced to the Europa League semi-finals.

Add in an attack-minded, high-pressing 4-2-3-1 approach and Slot has become the main man for Spurs.

One potential problem is that Tottenham may not be able to secure Slot’s assistant.

RTV Rijnmond’s report notes that it is now expected that Feyenoord will target Sipke Hulshoff as a replacement if Slot goes.

Hulshoff currently serves as Slot’s assistant at Feyenoord and Slot would surely love to bring him to Spurs.

However, Hulshoff is being earmarked as a possible successor if paired up with an experienced assistant manager.

That wouldn’t be ideal for Slot, who would need to turn to other coaches to help him at Tottenham.

UPDATE: RTV Rijnmond have since retracted their claims about Slot since it became clear that he would be staying at Feyenoord.

Slot has today (Thursday) committed his future to Feyenoord, leaving Tottenham’s managerial search in an absolute mess.

This feels like a huge moment for Feyenoord though with Slot now poised to sign a new deal at De Kuip.

Ajax and PSV Eindhoven look like a real shambles at the moment whereas Feyenoord are keeping their mastermind manager and have Champions League money to bring in.

There is a real chance for Slot to make Feyenoord the real power of Dutch football now, which would make him an even better hero in Rotterdam than he already is right now.

Maybe Tottenham just couldn’t bridge the gap in valuation or maybe Slot just thinks Feyenoord are a better bet for him than Spurs at the moment.

Either way, Tottenham must go back to the drawing board and Feyenoord fans are in dreamland.
