Tottenham Hotspur have discussed making a move to bring in Brendan Rodgers as their new manager this summer.

That is according to a report from ESPN, who claim that Tottenham have had ‘internal discussions’ about a move for Rodgers.

It’s unclear whether Tottenham will press ahead with that idea but Rodgers is seemingly in the thinking.

Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot are two top targets for Spurs but Rodgers could yet come into the picture as a top target.

Rodgers is out of work having lost his job as Leicester City boss in April.

The Northern Irishman largely did a fine job in his four years as Leicester boss but this season was difficult.

The Foxes remain in relegation trouble after Rodgers was unable to stop a troubling slide into the drop zone.

Tottenham would be taking a gamble by appointing Rodgers, a manager recently axed by a relegation-threatened team.

Still, Daniel Levy is a keen admirer of Rodgers and his work – and it’s worth keeping him in mind if Nagelsmann and Slot don’t want the job.

Spurs are hardly a great example of a well-oiled machine right now and tempting top managers will be tricky.

Rodgers has shown enough in his career to be in the conversation and it’s an option Tottenham could pursue down the line.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy likes Brendan Rodgers

Tottenham’s interest in Rodgers actually goes all the way back to 2012.

Spurs wanted Rodgers as a replacement for Harry Redknapp having been impressed with his work as Swansea City boss.

Rodgers told The Times in 2013 that he snubbed the move to North London, instead choosing the become Liverpool boss.

Spurs turned to Andre Villas-Boas and, whilst that move showed initial promise, it didn’t end too well.

Levy may well still like what Rodgers brings to the table, hence the conversations about finally bringing him to Spurs.

Rodgers would surely jump at the chance to become Tottenham boss this time but he is unlikely to emerge as the top target.
