Darren Ambrose says Ryan Mason ‘isn’t ready’ to take on the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s job full-time as he wants Julian Nagelsmann in the dugout instead.
After sacking Antonio Conte, the powers that be at Tottenham handed the keys to Cristian Stellini, but after going 5-0 down at Newcastle inside 20 minutes, he quickly followed his fellow Italian out of the door.
That’s when Ryan Mason was told to get at the wheel, and with little improvement since taking charge, Ambrose suggested that Conte is now ‘laughing’ at what is happening in north London.

Yes, Spurs picked up three points and a clean sheet against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
But they still lost 4-3 to Liverpool, after going 3-0 down inside 15 minutes, and they were also 2-0 down at half-time against Manchester United.
Those defensive issues are still there, with Tottenham-supporting pundit Darren Ambrose making it clear that he doesn’t want Mason to be given the role for next season, as he told Sky Sports News (06/05/23).
“It has become a bit of a circus in terms of the manager situation,” said Ambrose. “I know what Antonio Conte said, he shouldn’t have said publicly.
“But he’s laughing now because he has been proven right. Then to replace him with his number two that has the same philosophy as him. It was only going to go one way.
“Then, to get rid of him and replace him with another interim. Nothing against Ryan Mason. He is a great guy. He seems a Tottenham lad through and through. He’s not ready for the job. Absolutely not.
“For me, I would have gone for Julian Nagelsmann. But will he want to go to Tottenham Hotspur? He has come from these big teams. Will he want to go to what is a circus off the field?”

MASON TOO MUCH OF A RISK
The 31-year-old might be up for the role, but Daniel Levy can’t risk it because of his inexperience.
Yes, the other managers that have been linked, such as Xabi Alonso, are just as young, but they have tasted the big time.
Whether it’s Julian Naglesmann with Bayern Munich or Alonso taking Bayer Leverkusen to the semi-finals of the Europa League, those two are much better options.
