Mauricio Pochettino may fancy a return to Tottenham Hotspur but the move is now considered to be very doubtful.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Pochettino’s return to Spurs is ‘rated as doubtful’ inside Tottenham.

Julian Nagelsmann now appears to be Tottenham’s top choice after his shock Bayern Munich exit.

Large sections of the Tottenham fanbase would love to see Pochettino return but the Spurs board don’t seem as keen.

The London Evening Standard recently claimed that Tottenham decision-makers are split on bringing Pochettino back.

That still seems to be the case, even with Pochettino allegedly keen on the job.

Reporter Shaun Custis told talkSPORT last week that Pochettino has been ‘pushing like mad’ to get the Tottenham role again.

It’s starting to look like that dream return won’t be happening.

Mauricio Pochettino should still be one of the Tottenham favourites

Tottenham sacking Pochettino in 2019 just hasn’t worked out.

Results for the Argentinian weren’t great at the time but Tottenham have lurched from one terrible fit to another in the dugout.

Nobody since Pochettino’s exit has even come close to truly buying into the Tottenham project and having such a strong connection with the supporters.

Pochettino, on the other hand, went away and won a league title at Paris Saint-Germain.

Maybe there is friction between Pochettino and some members of the Tottenham board; maybe Tottenham don’t want to admit a mistake in sacking him.

Yet if we’re looking at the top candidates out there, how many are really better than Pochettino?

The 51-year-old guided Tottenham to the Champions League final and managed to have Spurs fans dreaming of winning the Premier League title.

There is still scope for Pochettino to come back and continue where he left off – Spurs just have to be open to bringing him back.
