Former Arsenal player Adrian Clarke has said that Julian Nagelsmann should turn down the chance to manage Tottenham Hotspur

The pundit has said on Michael Calvin’s Football People Podcast that Nagelsmann is too good for Tottenham at the moment.

Clarke rates the German boss highly, but he thinks that the former Bayern Munich manager may not be able to make an immediate impact at Spurs due to the squad that they have at the moment.

The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney has written in the Reading the Game newsletter (1:01pm, April 28, 2023) that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants to bring Nagelsmann to Tottenham as the new first-team manager.

Levy is reportedly making a huge pitch for the German boss.

Julian Nagelsmann told to reject Tottenham Hotspur

Clarke said, as transcribed by TBR: “Genuinely I probably wouldn’t because there is a lot of work to be done there and your two best players are getting on a bit and one is likely to leave in the summer in Harry Kane.

“I think Nagelsmann can do a lot better than Tottenham in their current state, that’s my honest opinion.

“They will get a good manager because they’re a big club and they have money and they will come again, but it may be two or three years before they’re strong again.”

HITC Verdict: Spurs very appealing

Okay, Tottenham Hotspur are not as big and successful a club as Bayern Munich.

And Spurs do not have the same calibre of players that Bayern do.

But, Tottenham are a massive club who are hugely appealing and are very attractive to any top manager.

Spurs could finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season.

And Nagelsmann is a very young manager.

He is, after all, only 35.
