Journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Tottenham Hotspur manager target Luis Enrique surprised Chelsea by how much he knew about their history and tradition.

Interestingly, Fabrizio Romano claimed on Thursday that Spurs view the Spanish boss as their second-choice option behind Julian Nagelsmann to take over the helm in N17.

As rumours continue to circulate around whether he will become the manager of Tottenham Hotspur or Chelsea, Luis Enrique certainly impressed the latter.

Considering Enrique’s unforgettable treble-winning season with Barcelona during the 2014/2015 campaign alongside the job he did with Spain, it is only natural why clubs are after his signature.

In fact, the 52-year-old called himself the ‘best coach in the world’ during his time with La Roja, as quoted by Reuters, with his aim being that his players should have the same level of self-belief at all times to reach the very top.

As Tottenham and Chelsea are seemingly vying to appoint Luis Enrique as their next manager, Ben Jacobs has said that the latter were taken aback by how much he knew about the club’s past.

“Luis Enrique, from Chelsea’s old regime has been interviewed and approached and considered before, so now he can be termed in the same category because he’s gone to London and you don’t do that unless you’re highly-rated”, he said on the Blues Brothers YouTube channel.

“My understanding is that Chelsea were impressed by how much he knew about them in terms of the club and the culture, it was very in depth and technical the conversations that happened, those are the two most likely candidates [Nagelsmann and Enrique].”

This revelation indicates that Luis Enrique is looking forward to become the manager of Chelsea amid his constant links to Tottenham, which could be a real blow for the current 4th placed side in the league.
