Tottenham Hotspur could yet turn to Marcelo Gallardo as they continue to weigh up potential managerial appointments.

Marcelo Gallardo has been touted as a possible option for Tottenham Hotspur if their managerial hunt drags on.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Gallardo could become a ‘late option’ for Spurs.

A move for Julian Nagelsmann seemingly won’t be happening and Mauricio Pochettino has gone to Chelsea.

Add in in that Tottenham missed out on Feyenoord boss Arne Slot last week and it’s unclear where they go next.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou appears to be a prime target for the job now, but Spurs will consider other options.

Gallardo is thought to be one of them, even if he doesn’t appear to be a top contender right now.

It’s a surprise Tottenham haven’t made Marcelo Gallardo a top target

Tottenham didn’t fancy appointing Pochettino, but how about one of his former teammates?

Pochettino and Marcelo Gallardo played together for Argentina and featured at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Gallardo went on to become a manager, first with Uruguayan side Nacional, where he ended his playing career.

2014 brought the big move Gallardo wanted; the River Plate job.

A River hero in three spells as a player, Gallardo only added to his legend as a manager.

The 47-year-old won the Copa Libertadores twice whilst also winning one league title and three Copa Argentina crowns.

River have paid tribute to Gallardo by unveiling a statue of him outside El Monumental, and it’s a surprise that a European club haven’t snapped him up yet.

Gallardo worked wonders at River whilst playing a number of different formations – a far cry from Antonio Conte being wedded to 3-4-3.

Gallardo has won trophies and pushed an attractive brand of football, possibly striking the perfect blend for what Tottenham want.

The Argentinian is out of work right now and if he isn’t a top target for Spurs as things stand, maybe he should be very soon.
