Jermaine Defoe has openly admitted that he would love to be appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager.
While the current youth coach at Spurs did say he did not want to ‘jump into’ anything too soon, he did not rule out the prospect.
With Tottenham Hotspur looking to bring in a brand-new manager, Jermaine Defoe has said that he is up for the task.
Jermaine Defoe says he would be open to becoming Tottenham manager
So far, the Lilywhites have been linked with a bunch of managers, including Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, Arne Slot, Vincent Kompany and Ryan Mason.
However, there still seems to be no indication about which coach will come in and replace Antonio Conte on a permanent basis.
Jermaine Defoe, who has never seemed like he was in the reckoning to become the next Tottenham manager has said that he could say yes if called upon.

“100 per cent. It’s a club I love, a club I played for nine years. It would be a dream come true. Do you know Ryan Mason? You must know him?”, he said on the Outside The Box podcast.
“I do know Ryan, I’ve not spoken to him yet. It would be a dream come true, it’s not just any club, to get the opportunity to help at first-team level, from now until the end of the season the games are important. To get that experience in my coaching career would be massive.”
It seems like while Jermaine Defoe would ideally like to be an assistant rather than a manager at Tottenham, he has not flat-out rejected the opportunity either.
HITC View: Tottenham should steer clear of the ex-player
Considering Defoe’s impressive Premier League career, especially in N17, it would make for a romantic story for him to manage the club.
However, it goes without saying that Jermaine Defoe should not even be in contention to become the next Tottenham manager.
Even if the former England international is making waves at academy level, there is not a shortage of top-quality options in the market.
A figurehead who is experienced and is renowned for being tactically flexible is the kind of profile of coach that the club should have eyes for.
However, if the club do bring in Defoe, that would be a disastrous decision.
