Swansea City sacked manager Bob Bradley on Tuesday evening.
Swansea City confirmed on Sunday evening that Bob Bradley has been sacked just shy of three months into the job.
Having sacked Italian boss Francesco Guidolin earlier this season, Swansea moved to appoint American boss Bradley in a strange move, given that his most recent jobs have been with Egypt, Stabaek and Le Havre.
Ultimately, Swansea’s gamble on Bradley hasn’t paid off, as he won just two of his 11 games in charge, with Monday’s 4-1 home defeat to West Ham United proving to be the final straw for the Swansea board.
Wales head coach Chris Coleman
Bradley is on his way out of South Wales, leaving Swansea to search for a third manager of the season – and here are the early movers and shakers according to bookmakers, as compiled by Oddschecker.
Chris Coleman
Swansea-born and a former Swans defender, Wales boss Coleman was always going to be a frontrunner for the job. The 46-year-old has worked wonders with the Welsh national team in recent years, as he not only guided them to Euro 2016, but also took them to the semi-finals of the competition. Coleman – who hasn’t managed a club since January 2012 – is now down to 6/4 to become the new Swansea manager, with a possible return to his hometown club on the cards.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
Ryan Giggs
The two favourites for the job right now are both Welsh, as Giggs is also being touted as a replacement for Bradley. Giggs, 43, has yet to manage a team on a full-time basis, but many are backing him for managerial success having been Louis van Gaal’s assistant at Manchester United. Giggs, a Welsh hero, has been out of the game since leaving United over the summer, and a return to Wales could be appealing. His odds have slightly drifted though, as he’s now around 2/1 for the job having previously been odds-on favourite.
Jaap Stam
Eyebrows were raised when Reading chose to appoint former Manchester United defender Stam as their manager over the summer, but their faith in the Dutchman has been repaid. With 13 wins from 23 Championship games and just six defeats, Reading are only six points off the automatic promotion spots, and Stam’s stock as a manager is rising. Bookmakers now make Stam a contender for the Swansea job, and at 16/1, he’s an intriguing dark horse for the job.
Brendan Rodgers
Having spent two years as Swansea manager between 2010 and 2012, it’s no surprise that Rodgers has been mentioned for a return to the Liberty Stadium. Currently impressing with Celtic having won 18 of 19 league games, Rodgers is rebuilding his reputation having lost his job at Liverpool last year, and Swansea would certainly welcome him back having won 44.8% of his games in his first spell with the club. However, a Rodgers would be mad to trade Celtic for a Premier League relegation battle, and the odds make him something of an outsider at 25/1.
Frank de Boer
The aforementioned Stam isn’t the only Dutchman linked with the job, as Frank de Boer is also being touted as a potential replacement for Bradley. De Boer, 46, won four league titles in charge of Ajax but is out of work having been sacked by Inter Milan in November, after less than three months in the job. With a career win rate of 59%, De Boer has impressed as a manager, and Swansea should be interested – and at just 12/1 this evening, he appears to be a major contender for the Swansea job.
