Queens Park Rangers are looking for a new manager after sacking Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Queens Park Rangers confirmed on Saturday evening that manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has lost his job after less than a year in charge.
Hasselbaink, 44, earned rave reviews with Burton Albion having won more than 60% of his games in charge of the Brewers, but left for Loftus Road in December 2015.
The Dutchman struggled with QPR though, winning only 13 of his 47 games in charge for a win rate of just 27.7% – and after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest, owner Tony Fernandes decided to sack Hasselbaink.
Former QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Hasselbaink leaves QPR in 17th place in the Championship table, six points clear of the relegation zone and six points off the play-offs, with Fernandes clearly feeling that QPR needed a change.
Fernandes now has the international break to find a new manager, and bookmakers have been pricing up odds for who could become the new QPR boss – and here are five of the most notable movers today, as compiled by Oddschecker.
Ex-Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood
Tim Sherwood: Former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss Sherwood is the favourite for the job, given that QPR’s director of football Les Ferdinand worked alongside him at Tottenham. Out of work since losing his job at Villa in October 2015, Sherwood is currently evens to become the new QPR manager, making him the clear favourite to replace Hasselbaink.
Ian Holloway: Holloway made almost 200 appearances for QPR as a player before becoming their manager in 2001, taking charge of more than 250 games in almost five years at the club. Now working for Sky Sports as a Football League pundit, Holloway has been out of management since losing his job at Millwall in March 2015, and at 4/1, he appears to be a frontrunner for QPR.
Ian Holloway
Paul Clement: Former Derby County boss Clement is currently a 3/1 shot for the job, and is no stranger to West London having been a coach at Chelsea. The son of former QPR ace Dave Clement, the 44-year-old was a highly-regarded coach during his time at Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, but his spell at Derby has dulled his reputation. Now back alongside Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern Munich, Clement could fancy the chance to return to England and manage again.
Steve Cotterill: A shock name in the frame, Cotterill has been out of work since losing his job at Bristol City in January of this year. The 52-year-old is an experienced Football League boss having managed Burnley, Notts County, Portsmouth, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City, and is currently as short as 6/1 to make a shock move to QPR.
Karl Robinson: The 36-year-old recently left MK Dons after almost seven years in charge, and remains highly thought of despite struggling with the Dons this season. Robinson is a 6/1 shot for QPR, and if Fernandes decides to go with a similar route as Hasselbaink, in terms of appointing a young manager who has impressed in the lower leagues, then Robinson will be in the frame.
