Tim Sherwood has said on Sky Sports News (12:30pm, February 18, 2023) that he is open to becoming the new Leeds United manager.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager made the commentswhen his name was put forward for the Leeds job by fellow Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

Former Arsenal and Villa star Merson believes that Sherwood would be a good managerial appointment for Leeds.

The West Yorkshire club are on the hunt for a new manager following the sacking of Jesse Marsch.

Leeds are in real danger of getting relegated from the Premier League to the Championship at the end of the season.

Paul Merson and Tim Sherwood on Leeds United manager’s job

Merson said: “I think the man sitting there (Tim Sherwood). I am not saying because he’s my mate as well.

“He is fresh, he has had a go and he has been there before. I just think someone like that, and I am not saying because he’s my mate.”

Sherwood responded when Sky presenter Jeff Stelling asked him if he would take the job: “Absolutely. Certainly at Leeds United, I don’t think they get relegated. I really don’t.”

Unlikely to happen

We do not think that Leeds United will approach Tim Sherwood for the managerial job now.

Yes, Sherwood has managed Spurs and Aston Villa in the Premier League, but he has not been in a managerial role for a while now.

The 54-year-old former England international midfielder, who won the Premier League title as a player with Blackburn Rovers in 1994-95, last managed a club in 2015.

It was Aston Villa.

We do not think that Leeds will approach Sherwood now, especially as the club are in real danger of going down to the Championship.
