Everybody thought Ben White was going to be Arsenal’s third signing of the summer.
After all, The Daily Mail claimed on Saturday that an announcement was ‘imminent’ ahead of a £50 million move from Brighton & Hove Albion.
But Arsenal have only gone and made a teenage striker their third addition of the window before White, it seems.
According to The Athletic, the Gunners have signed 18-year-old hitman Mika Biereth, who snubbed a chance to stay at Fulham in favour of moving across the capital to London Colney.
He was absolutely lethal for the Under-18s last season, netting 21 goals in as many games.
And here’s how some fans of the Emirates Stadium club reacted on Twitter to hearing of his reported arrival.
Not a senior signing
Biereth won’t be anywhere near Arsenal’s senior side next season and therefore the supporters shouldn’t lose the run of themselves in the belief that an 18-year-old unknown is the striker that Mikel Arteta and Edu are planning to add this summer.
With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 32 years old and arguably a declining force in the Premier League based on last season, and with Alexandre Lacazette potentially leaving the club, the North Londoners absolutely need reinforcement in this area.
A £40 million move for Tammy Abraham has been mooted in a piece of gossip which hasn’t gone down well with Arsenal fans.
Still, a senior striker will almost certainly be joining, irrespective of their reported purchase of Biereth.
