Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is liked by The FA but there is seemingly little chance to prising him away from the Magpies.
That’s according to the Daily Star, who claim that The FA are considering their options in terms of a new manager.
England lost 2-1 to France on Saturday night, crashing out of the World Cup in the quarter-finals.
Gareth Southgate has yet to decide whether to continue as England boss and The FA would be wise to have other options in mind.
Newcastle boss Howe is one manager that The FA like, and he would certainly fit the bill as an impressive English manager.
Yet a move actually seems unlikely because Howe won’t be leaving Newcastle any time soon and The FA’s hopes appear to be over already.
England interest in Newcastle boss Howe is no surprise
This rumour was always going to emerge at some point.
Howe was highly regarded in his Bournemouth days and some tipped him for the England job back then.
Howe’s reputation took a dent with Bournemouth suffering relegation from the Premier League in 2020.
Yet the 45-year-old has done such a great job at Newcastle United that he will now be a firm favourite of The FA once again.
This isn’t just about the money Newcastle now have at their disposal since their takeover.
Howe has improved players that were not only struggling under Steve Bruce but were actually treated as joke figures.
The likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton spring to mind whilst Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff are back playing their best football under Howe.
That kind of work is always going to attract attention but Howe would be wise to stay at Newcastle.
Howe has a great thing going at St James’ Park and leaving now just wouldn’t make sense when he has a real shot at a top four finish with Newcastle.
The interest is a great compliment but Howe surely won’t be trading Newcastle for the England job right now.
